  4.     Known throughout his five congressional terms chiefly for
  5. his bombast, Democrat Gus Savage of Chicago is in a peck of
  6. trouble. He has been accused by a woman Peace Corps volunteer
  7. of engaging in sexual misconduct.

  9.     On a junket to Zaire last March, Savage found himself in
  10. the company of the 28-year-old volunteer, who was assigned to
  11. brief him on Peace Corps activities. She says that during a
  12. two-hour tour of the night spots of Kinshasa, Zaire's capital
  13. city, Savage fondled her in his chauffeur-driven car and asked
  14. for sex. "He kept saying, `That's the way the world works,'" she
  15. told the Washington Post. The woman says she escaped Savage's
  16. advances when an embassy worker intervened. The next day U.S.
  17. Ambassador William Harrop rebuked Savage, and soon afterward the
  18. volunteer was sent back to the U.S. for counseling.

  20.     Savage, 63, reacted to the charges by calling the
  21. accusations racist. When a woman reporter approached him for
  22. comment, he growled, "Stay the f--- out of my face!" Now in his
  23. face is the probability of an investigation by the House ethics
  24. committee.
